There are no goodbyes - Asking for, and receiving, direct messages from loved ones on the other side.

Someone you love has died, so now what do you do? How do you find out that they're okay and they're still with you in spirit?

Many people choose to consult with a medium in hopes to reconnect with their deceased loved ones and it is an experience that does aid in the healing process of grief. I am a medium and work with families every day to help them connect with loved ones on the other side. It is something unforgettable and yet sometimes, it can leave people with a bigger feeling of absence because once the session is over, it's as though their loved one is leaving them again, only to return through another session.

Sometimes after receiving a session like this, it isn't uncommon to experience the sting of grief all over again. And that is why it is important for people to understand that there are multitudes of ways to receive validating messages and communication from loved ones on the other side along with consulting an outside source such as a medium.

It's important to know that we are just as much a part of the process of after death communication as are our loved ones on the other side. That's because we are still part of a relationship with them and relationships don't work if only one person is trying. It takes the effort of both people to make a relationship work, whether that exists here on earth or between this side and the other side.

Death does not sever our connections or relationships. It merely changes it into another form. So the challenge becomes learning how to maintain communication and recognize the ways in which it happens. But to do so, you have to take that step in becoming actively involved in the experience. Don't just wait for a sign to come to you. Simply ask for one, and define what you want to see, hear, feel, or experience.

Dreams are sometimes the easiest way to ask for a message. Ask that your loved one come to you in a dream in a way you will know it is them, and ask that it be strong enough so you will remember it. This way, your guard is down and there is little fear to stop you from connecting. This is when you are most receptive to such experiences. Oftentimes, in these dream visitations, you will be given a small premonition. They do this to reassure you that they are there with you and are still an active part of your life.

Dream visitations are different than normal dreams. They are extremely vivid and the details can be recalled months, even years after the experience. So when this happens, make sure to write it down and keep record of it. By doing so, you are training your brain to pay attention to these subconscious messages which will encourage them to happen more often.

The more requests you make, the more opportunities you are giving yourself to being open to the messages that are coming to you.

For example, you may wake up and feel the presence of your loved one. You are thinking of them and as you get in your car to run errands, you turn on the radio and his or her favorite song is on. Or you walk into a cafe' and the people that are sitting at a table near you are talking about someone who's name is the same as your loved one.

There are many examples of how our loved ones reach out to show us they are there with us. It's just shifting your perspective to recognizing the ways in which it happens.

After death communication is a process and like anything that takes effort, patience is key. So be patient with the experience and remember, there are no limitations but the limitations you put on yourself.
